Bhangra was born as a folk dance to celebrate the warm harvest festival in Punjab, the northern state of India and Pakistan. While it ushered the joyous month of harvest, it filled the air with sounds of drums, vocals and claps. This class is full of excitement! Bhangra took the form of boliyan (short poems) accompanied with the bass of the Dhol (drum). It is a high-energy vigorous dance, coordinating footwork along with upper body, shoulder, arm and hand movements. Bhangra is for both men and women.
Students will learn the basic steps such as Khara Bhangra (stationary step), Luddi, Jhoomer and Summi in the course of four weeks. Preteens, teens, Adults and Seniors are welcome to join in this celebratory dance!
