Yoga FAQ
What is Hatha Yoga?
Hatha yoga is the practice of yoga asanas (poses), pranayama (breath work), and Dhyana (mediation). All forms of yoga asana are Hatha yoga, ie, Iyengar, Ashtanga, and Vinyasa are all forms of Hatha Yoga. Our teachers bring their vast experience gained from a committed personal practice to each class that they teach, offering you a unique class each time.
I am a beginner, which class should I take?
Our classes are perfect for all levels of students. The teacher will guide you step by step in the poses in a way that you will be able to experience their many benefits while also allowing you the complete freedom to stop or rest if you need to.
What do I need to bring/Wear?
We supply all yoga props in the studio that you would use during the class including: mats, blocks, bolsters and blankets. However, feel free to bring your own mat and blanket. You may want to bring a water bottle, but we do have water and cups provided. Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, and are warm enough in. Our yoga studio is heated by the main boiler in the Good Shepherd Center, and sometimes the room can be chilly. Wear layers so that you can moderate you own heat.
What if I have special physical circumstances?
You are welcome to come a bit early to class and discuss your concerns with the teacher. Your teacher will be able to help you modify the poses for your specific needs.
