Pregnancy FAQ

I have never done yoga before, is that ok?

Yes, our classes are perfect for all levels of students. The teacher will guide you step by step in the poses in a way that will allow you to experience their benefits while also allowing you the freedom to stop or rest if you need to. Please make sure that you have eaten something at least one hour before your class.

How far along do I have to be to begin?

You are welcome to come to our classes whenever you feel you are ready. We have women who are five weeks pregnant to women in their 42nd week. Women who are interested in becoming pregnant are also welcome to attend our prenatal classes.

Do I have to sign up for a specific day/series?

All of our classes are drop in based. There is no specific start time, or end time. If you prefer to come on a certain day or time, you are welcome to do so, or you could jump around and try different classes.
For example you could come on Monday at 7:00pm one week and Thursday at 4:00pm the next.

What do I need to bring/wear?

We supply all yoga props in the studio that you would use during the class including: mats, blocks, bolsters and blankets. Feel free to bring your own mat and blanket. You may want to bring a water bottle, but we do have water and cups provided. Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in, and are warm enough in. Our yoga studio is heated by the main boiler in the Good Shepherd Center, and sometimes the room can be chilly. Wear layers so that you can moderate you own heat.

What if I have special physical circumstances?

You are welcome to come a bit early to class and discuss your concerns with the teacher. She will be able to help you modify the poses for your specific needs.

What if my baby is born before I am finished with my class card?

In this case we will always transfer your remaining prenatal classes into our parenting program. Just give us a call, or an email and let us know when your baby was born, and we will extend your classes out six months from the date your baby was born.

What if I get put on bed rest/other extenuating circumstances?

Give the office a call, and we will discuss your options.

What is the difference between a drop in and a class card, and what is the registration fee for?

A drop in is $17, and may be purchased at anytime without paying the registration fee. Once you have paid the registration fee, you are a member of our Center and can purchase a class card. Class cards can be purchased in several different amounts. The more classes you buy, the more you save! Members receive free admission to special events like “Birth Film Night” and gain access to our member only sections on our website.

I paid a registration fee with my last pregnancy. Do I have to pay again?

Yes, the prenatal registration fee is a per pregnancy fee.

What do you mean by 4 classes/ 8 weeks?

All of our class packages are listed with the class amount first, and the amount of time to use those classes second. 4 classes/8wks means that you are purchasing four classes that will expire in 8 weeks.

Can I bring my mother/other guests?

We love having moms (grandmoms) come to class! If your mom is in town for a couple weeks and you would like to bring her once or twice, she is welcome to attend free of charge. However, If your mom wants to come with you semi regularly or on a regular basis, she will need to purchase her own class card. Out-of-town guests can purchase a drop in or share classes on your card.
