Postpartum Massage & Bodywork
Julie Morse, LMP
During the time after giving birth, a woman can experience many physiological and emotional changes like; exhilaration, joy, fatigue, and sometimes sadness or disappointment. Massage can provide relief of musculoskeletal complaints and at the same time give emotional support and nurturance during this vital life transition.
Massage promotes relaxation and feelings of well-being. When a woman's needs are met, when she is nurtured and full, she is better able to meet the needs of her baby and family.
Additional benefits of postpartum massage are:
· Relief of muscle tension from the birth process
· Promotes milk production
· Address pelvic floor dysfunction
· Supports fluid balancing
· Aids in the process of the uterus returning to its normal size
· Helps mother regain vital energy (chi) to help reduce fatigue
· Helps return a women's body to its pre pregnancy shape
· Facilitates healing from Cesarean Section
Massage can be a wonderful treat to give to yourself at any stage postpartum, from one day after birth to many years. Whenever you feel ready is the perfect time.
